Portraits of Earth

Memphis · Los Angeles · West Hollywood · Trondheim

One night I started scrolling through Google Street View — not to look at the places, but at the people in them. The camera car drives each street once and keeps whoever happens to be there: mid-errand, checking a phone, sitting out front. None of them knew they'd be kept.

I saved the ones that felt like portraits. I find people endlessly fascinating, and there's something beautiful about all these small human moments sitting on streets all over the world. There's also something uneasy about it — the same technology that maps the whole planet quietly collects the people on it. I'm not trying to answer that. But the faces are blurred, and if they weren't, I wouldn't have posted this.
